Essential Oils Uses

Why use essential oils

Essential oils, the life-blood of plants contain a broad range of naturally manufactured (by the plant) chemical compounds. These provide an extensive list of physical, mental/emotional, and spiritual benefits to all who use them.

More specifically they are extremely effective at enhancing a wide range of therapies and natural healing techniques including, but not limited to:

  • Aromatherapy
  • Massage therapy
  • Chiropractic
  • Acupuncture
  • Mindfulness, meditation and yoga
  • Touch-for-health
  • Naturopathy
  • Stress reduction and emotion release
  • Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM)
  • Psychotherapy
  • Applied Kinesiology

Essential oils are also becoming more popular for use by mental health professionals and health coaches.

How essential oils work with your body

Essential oils are highly versatile in that their benefits can be gained by:

  • Absorbing the constituent plant chemicals through your skin
  • Inhaling the aromas using an essential oil diffuser or bowl method

IMPORTANT Essential oils should be diluted to a safe strength in a carrier oil before direct application to the skin. Too concentrated an oil can cause skin irritations and reactions.

Benefits of essential oils

Essential oils have been used as traditional remedies for centuries, for:

  • Mental and/or emotional wellness
  • Relief from headaches and migraines
  • Improving sleep
  • Reducing anxiety
  • Promoting calmness and relaxation
  • Support and prevention of various skin conditions
  • Sunburn relief

Benefits experienced by professional practitioners

Professional health practitioners have also investigated the benefits for themselves and for their patients, as we did ourselves in our chiropractic clinic. That wealth of ‘on the ground’ experience and recent scientific studies have helped our understanding of just how effective essential oils can be.

Essential oils and the limbic system

Inhaling essential oil aromas has been shown to stimulate parts of your limbic system. This is the area of your brain that is responsible for emotions, behaviours and long-term memories, as well as your sense of smell. That’s why a particular smell can trigger memories or emotions with just a single sniff!

The limbic system also has a role in unconscious physiological functions that happen “automatically”, such as heart rate, blood pressure and normal breathing. This may be one of the ways essential oils can exert a physical effect as well as an emotional effect through inhalation alone.

Essential oils Resonant Blends

  • Alter the bio-energetics of the meridian systems

And

  • Remove the mental/emotional blockage that so often prevents restoration to health.

We created twelve essential oil blends to support health, well-being promote healing and restore your bio-energetic balance. For more details, see our page on the 12 Resonant Blends.
